The D-backs lost their MLB-leading 37th game of the season,
despite Zac Gallen having a career night and Christian Walker hitting the game-winning home run. The winning run in the Dodgers' 3-2 victory was driven in by Mookie Betts on an infield single off Joe Mantiply. Mantiply was held responsible for the terrible conclusion of an inning in which the Dodgers loaded the bases against Reyes Moronta, who ended up taking the loss.
Expectations were met for the pitching showdown between Julio Urias and Zac Gallen. Urias only gave up 3 hits and 1 unearned run in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out five and only walked one batter. Possibly with the playoffs in mind, manager Dave Roberts pulled him after 89 pitches. Gallen was phenomenal, setting career highs in both innings pitched (eight) and strikeouts (13). He dismissed the Dodgers in order from the second to the fourth batters he faced, striking out five of them. Also, he retired the side in order by striking out four in a row between the seventh and eighth innings.

In the fourth inning, Gallen gave up both of the game's hits. After Stone Garrett had made an out at second base, Will Smith drove a sinking fly ball to right field for a triple. The next batter, Max Muncy, lined a ball up the first base line that nicked the chalk but still managed to drive in Smith for a double. That was Gallen's final admission of guilt. He struck out every batter he faced. An unbelievable 77% of his 98 deliveries were strikes. In 23 of 26 first-pitch strikeouts, he was ahead of the hitters.
As Gallen threw curveballs at a rate of 38%-41% of his total pitches, it was clear that he considered them a weapon. He got nine swinging strikes on curveballs, ten on fastballs, and two on balls out of the infield. It's now 2.46, his new ERA.
SPACE FOR INSTRUCTORS
RHP Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers Tony Gonsolin (forearm) faced hitters in a vertical bullpen and used every pitch in his arsenal. Manager Dave Roberts said the goods "looked fine." What I saw seemed like an admirable attempt. The 16-game winner and All-Star will be throwing another bullpen in a few days. RHP On Saturday, when Blake Treinen throws again, we'll find out how seriously his shoulder injury set him behind. It's clear that he's experiencing some sort of discomfort. For Roberts, "He's not rebounding back." RHP Brusdar Graterol, who had been sidelined with an elbow ailment, was activated from the disabled list. David Price (wrist) practised facing batters for one simulated inning. His attire was quite visually appealing. As Roberts put it, "He was letting go of it."
BREAKIN' STREAK
After a 0-for-4 performance with two strikeouts, Turner's 18-game hitting streak came to an end. Turner also ended another streak. He holds the record for longest current hitting streak against any team, with 47 straight games in which he recorded at least one hit.
For the most part of the game, Urias and the Dodger bullpen were able to keep the other team's offence in check. After a single, an error on a fielder's choice, and a walk loaded the bases with one out in the third inning, the batter struck out. Stone Garrett's sacrifice fly to the centre field fence produced the game's first run. For the first run of the game in the sixth inning, Garrett doubled. Nonetheless, Walker and Carson Kelly were both struck out by Evan Phillips, and Emmanuel Rivera's line out to third allowed Garrett to remain on base.

Heading into the deciding period, the score was knotted at one. Jake McCarthy was hit by a fastball from Craig Kimbrel to start the inning. He was declared safe at first and immediately ran to second. But after reviewing the situation, the umpires decided to reverse their earlier decision. McCarthy's tenacity in the slide had caused the bag to pop. Torey Lovullo claimed that Roberts lost time by waiting too long to request an umpire review. The officials couldn't come to an agreement with one another. The D-backs' lead was cut in half when Walker quickly homered to straight away centre after the errant throw was picked off.
As the ninth inning's pitcher, Moronta immediately took a two-run lead over Cody Bellinger. Although Bellinger went down in a full count, he was able to double off a fastball that was well outside the strike zone. First, Will Smith reached on an infield single, and then Freddie Freeman was intentionally walked to load the bases. Max Muncy was slowly making his way to third base when Mantiply came into the game. In the midst of a tie game, Bellinger came home after hitting an infield single. Mantiply threw out Joey Gallo, but Betts's hit to left field was the game-winner.
